Asus has recently announced the launch of new entry-level gaming laptops for the Indian market with the launch of TUF Gaming FX705DY and FX505DY laptops. The laptops are equipped with the latest AMD processors and feature Radeon graphics.
The Asus TUG Gaming FX705DY is priced at Rs 69,990 and will be available to buy from retail stores across the country. The major attraction of this laptop is the new AMD processor. However, the question here is, can it face the competition? let’s take a closer look.
Asus TUF Design and performance
Starting with the design, the new Asus TUF FX705DY laptop has been significantly strengthened. Despite having a 17.3 inch display, the laptop does not seem to be too heavy and it is thinner than other gaming laptops in this price range. You would love to take it anywhere. The laptop is also military-grade MIL-STD-810G certified, which means that it is sturdy and sturdy.
The lid is made of plastic and has a brushed aluminum feel to look premium in nature. Once you open the top, you will see that the display is immersive with minimal bezels. The full-size keyboard gives in the second half and so is the trackpad. Talking about ports placement, on the left is a DC-in port, Ethernet, HDMI, three USB ports and a headphone jack, while on the right is a Kingston lock. That said, the laptop is primarily made of plastic, but still, it seems strong and premium in this price range.
Coming to the display, the laptop has a 17.3-inch full HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The laptop offers good color reproduction and the viewing angles are decent. However, it is a bit reflective and we also saw some glimpses on screen, which in our opinion was quite strange. But other than that, the performance is decent, although the refresh rate of 60 Hz may be lower for modern graphics games.
Asus TUF Keyboard and trackpad
Coming to the keyboard, the company claims that it is inspired by the desktop. The keyboard offers 1.8mm significant travel and is backlit. In our testing, we found that the keyboard is comfortable to use for long typing sessions. The company has placed the key decently and has also revealed the WASD key, which makes it easier for you when playing the game. In addition, a backlit keyboard is also helpful when typing in low light.

However, we did not like the posting of arrow keys because we were mostly confused between the 0 and up keys. In addition, the keyboard is quite comfortable in the opinion. On the trackpad it works fine and you will not have much trouble in using it.
Coming to performance, the Asus TUF Gaming FX705DY is powered by an AMD Ryzen 5 3550H processor clocked at 2.1 GHz (6 M cache, up to 3.7 GHz). The laptop has an AMD Radeon RX 560X graphics card with 4GB GDDR5 VRAM. It is supported by 8GB of RAM and 1TB 5400 rpm SATA HDD storage.
That said, the laptop flies into daily tasking like using it for some browsing, or using Microsoft Office and more. You will not have any problem by getting into multi-tasking. We opened more than 20 tabs on Chrome and played a video on Netflix, while using Microsoft Word and switching between applications. The results were decent, although we noticed a few minute lag when stretching the multitasking part. We also did some light video editing on this laptop and the result was average.
On the gaming front, the laptop is capable of handling most casual games like a piece of cake. However, when it comes to modern graphics games, it flickers a bit and the performance is not very good in our opinion. But still, you can play some older titles on this laptop and some graphics with even lower graphics settings because frame rates matter the most in such games. Coming in the heating part, the laptop is equipped with hypercoal technology with a dual-fan design that helps manage the temperature of this laptop during long gaming sessions.

Battery Life and Audio
For battery life, ASUS offers the TUF Gaming FX705DY 4 -Cell 64 Wh polymer battery. In our testing, we found that the battery performance on this laptop was quite impressive. Under day-to-day use, the laptop lasted for 7 hours. Under electricity usage, we came to know that it lasted for about 4 hours. Charging speed is good.
On the audio front, it is loaded with stereo speakers with support for DTS headphones. Audio performance is comparable to this laptop, as it lacked too much bass and is not as great as high. To be fair, I was quite disappointed with the audio performance of this device.
The Asus TUF Gaming FX705DY has been introduced with some strong design and the display is looking good, though the glitches were bad mood. You will have no trouble using it as a daily driver, however, modern graphics games do not run well with this laptop. That said, if you want some escort games and enjoy the big screen, you can consider it as an option, otherwise, there are other options available in the market.
- Daily Performance
- Shimmers at high-graphics games
- Poor audio performance
