Asus Zenbook laptop is slick, lighter and more powerful than the predecessor and comes with a starting price of Rs 74,990. So, is there any point in buying this laptop? Let me dive in
Asus has recently announced the launch of the next generation of ZenBook series with Zenbook 15. Zenbook 14 and Zenbook 13.. Laptops now come with top-of-the-line specifications with some freshly designed language.
Of the three devices, the Zenbook 14 is loaded with some interesting features. The laptop is slick, lighter and more powerful than the predecessor and comes with a starting price of Rs 74,990. So, is there any point in buying this laptop? Let me dive in
Asus Zenbook Design and performance
Starting with the first design, the ZenBook 14 is one of the best designed laptops of Asus. It is compact, smooth and lightweight, which makes it easy to carry anywhere without any hassle. The company cleverly designed this laptop with a mixture of metal and plastic. The lid is made of metal and you have the Asus logo with the company’s famous concentric circle design, which is ubiquitous in the Asus laptop lineup.
Moving forward, the deck is made of plastic, making it a lightweight laptop with a weight of only 1.19kg. Once you open the laptop, you will see the ErgoLift design of the company. This design helps in better cooling and comfortable condition. Screen almost bezel-less design with golden flux mesh and island-style keyboard on deck. The right side of the laptop is equipped with a microSD card slot, USB port, headphone jack, and battery indicator, while the left houses a DC-in port, an HDMI port and USB port, and a USB Type-C port. That said, the Asus Zenbook 14 is one of Asus’s uniquely designed laptops that maintains its identity in this price band.
Coming to the display, the Asus Zenbook 14 is equipped with a 14-inch full HD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The bezels are quite slim and have a 92-percent screen-to-body ratio that provides a great viewing experience. The laptop gives some crisp colors and it has some very good viewing angles. It does a great job when it comes to color reproduction, brightness and more. However, we felt that it is a bit reflective, meaning that when you are working in outdoor conditions you will have a little difficulty.
Asus Zenbook Keyboard and trackpad
Coming to the keyboard, it features a full-size backlit keyboard, with large keys that make it a pleasant typing experience. Once you get used to the keyboard, you will definitely enjoy the entire typing experience on it. With a 1.4 mm critical travel, you won’t have any trouble with those long sessions of typing. Moving forward, the palm rest is sufficient to comfortably rest your hand while typing on the keyboard. Another advantage here is the backlit nature, which makes it easier to type in darker conditions.

Another highlight of this laptop is the trackpad, which doubles as a nappad. Nampad can be activated by long pressing a small button on the top-right of the trackpad. This technology is owned by the company and is a useful function in our opinion. You can also use the trackpad while Numpad is on, although you need to be a little careful as a light press can hold a number while typing. Overall, the experience of the trackpad is quite easy and you will not have any trouble while using it.
The ZenBook 14 model we are reviewing comes with an Intel Core i7 processor as well as an Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU, priced at Rs 90,990. You get 8GB of RAM with 512GB PCIe 3.0 x 2 SSD storage. Performance is one area where laptops work really well.
The laptop is capable of handling most daily routine tasks such as browsing the Internet, watching movies, downloading files, and using a host of Microsoft Office apps without a sweat. The device is capable of handling most heavy tasks like photo-editing and light video editing without any hassle. However, we noticed that the laptop has a coil whine problem. When you are doing some heavy work, it is a kind of scratching sound. In our unit, the sound was particularly low, but some users who have recently purchased this laptop are reporting that it becomes unbearable at times. Hopefully, the company will look into the matter and find a solution for the issue.

The battery on the Zenbook 14 is simply amazing. The company is equipped with a 50Wh 3-cell lithium-polymer battery, which lasted an entire day under comfortable normal use, including plenty of typing, web surfing, and more. Under intensive use of power, we got 4 hours of battery backup, which is again decent in our opinion. The company has given a 65W power adapter with this laptop, which charges the device from 0 to 50 percent in about 40 to 45 minutes.
Asus Zenbook 14 is one of the best laptops of Asus. The notebook is loaded with a sleek design and is quite compact in nature. The display is sharp and provides a great viewing experience, although it is quite reflective in nature. The performance is top notch, although the coil whine issue can be annoying to some. Battery life is simply amazing. To conclude, if you are looking for a compact yet powerful laptop and budget is not a constraint, it can be considered an option.
