The laptop has an initial price of Rs 66,900 and is loaded with Intel Core i5 processor with 8 GB RAM and reliable battery backup. But will it be enough to make it a successful device in this price range? let’s find out.

Asus Zenbook Design and performance

The first thing you will notice about this device is its sheer light and thin profile. The laptop measures just 13.9 mm at its chunkiest point, making it possibly one of the thinnest laptops in this price range. Its weight is around 1.2kgs which makes it quite light in nature and you will not feel any burden while carrying it in your bag or your hand. The machine comes with a metallic finish on the base, although the company has opted for a plastic lid, which is kind of strange. When you open the laptop, you’ll get a matte metal chassis and island-style keyboard.

On the right is a USB port, 3.5 mm audio jack, and a microSD card slot, while on the left, you’ll find a power supply connector, an HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port, and a USB Type-C port. The laptop is also equipped with WiFi 802.11ac and Bluetooth. Asus has also added a fingerprint sensor to the Palm Rest, which is located on the right side of the touchpad. The speakers are sadly located under the laptop. Having said that, the company claims that it is MIL-STD-810G military-grade certified, meaning it must be durable in nature.

Coming to the display, the ZenBook 13 features a 13.3-inch Full HD NanoEdge display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with a 100 percent RBG color gamut. The bezels are quite thin, which makes it a pleasant viewing experience. The screen is quite bright and the anti-glare coating makes it easy to use under bright light conditions. The viewing angles are quite decent, meaning that you won’t have any trouble while watching a movie on this laptop with your friends. The text appears crisp and the color output is certainly quite interesting.

Keyboard and trackpad

Asus has done a really good job with the Zenbook 13.’s keyboard. The keys are large and well spaced, meaning that you won’t have any trouble when you start writing on it. The palm rest is comfortably enough to relax while typing on the keyboard. The travel distance between the keys is a bit hit due to the slim build, but it won’t spoil the overall experience. Interestingly, the backlit is completely backlit in nature, which makes it comfortable to type even when the light is great.

Coming to the trackpad, it works very well in our test. However, we think the trackpad could have been a bit smoother and an example was when the cursor accidentally moves to another corner of the screen when you accidentally clicked the inbuilt button. Furthermore, we thought that the response time of the cursor might be slightly better.

Our review unit comes with a Core i5-8259U processor with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD storage. In our testing, we found out that the laptop gave performance, which is expected with such specifications. Whether it was switching between multiple tabs in Chrome or multi-tasking between different applications, we had no problem. The machine was capable of handling all Microsoft Office software like a piece of cake. The device was able to handle basic editing on Adobe Photoshop, although high-end video editing is not a pleasant experience with this.

Despite being a powerful laptop, the ZenBook 13 is not for some high-end gaming. This is mainly due to the Intel UHD 620 graphics card, meaning that you can only enjoy less graphics-intensive games on it.

Coming to audio performance, this is an area where the laptop struggles a lot. It is loaded with dual speakers, but unfortunately, it is placed on the underside of the device. This spoils the entire audio experience, even if you are in a quiet environment. Therefore, a headphone with this is seriously recommended.

The battery

On the battery front, the Asus Zenbook 13 has a 50Wh lithium-polymer battery. Over the period of our testing, we found out that the laptop lasts for a full day of normal usage including random checking of emails, using MS Word to write articles, occasional video streaming on YouTube, and more . When you push it further, the laptop gives approx. 6 to 8 hours of battery backup before it drains completely.

Asus Zenbook 13 UX 331U has more ticks then crosses. The major attraction of this laptop is its lightweight and slim profile, which makes it an ideal choice for those who are always on the move. The performance of the device is quite impressive and you will not face much trouble during those painstakingly long typing sessions. The trackpad could have been a bit better and the same can be said for sound. Overall, if you are one of those people who are looking for a thin, lightweight laptop with some respectable specs then this can be considered a good option.
