Best Infinix S5 Pro Review

Infinix S5 Pro Review: Infinix has recently launched its first pop-up selfie smartphone in India.

The company introduced the Infinix S5 Pro in the country for Rs 9,999. Is it enough to make a long-lasting impression on consumers? let’s find out.

With this, it is the first smartphone under the Rs 10,000 segment that comes with a pop-up selfie camera. In addition, the Infinix S5 Pro is loaded with an interesting design language as well as some interesting features.

But, is this enough to make a long-lasting impression on consumers? let’s find out.

The Infinix S5 Pro is available in two colour options including Forest Green and Violet. We got the former for review and it definitely gives a different look. It is safe to say that this is probably one of the best-designed smartphones of Infinix.

The phone doesn’t feel cheap from any angle, the glossy finish at the back attracts some smoothies, but not so compared to other smartphones in this price range.

The Infinix S5 Pro comes with a fullscreen display without any notch or dot design, all thanks to the pop-up selfie camera. The right side features volume control and power on / off buttons, which are quite easy to access.

The base is loaded with a 3.5mm audio jack, micro-USB port, and a speaker grille, while the pop-up selfie mechanism is on top.

The phone is comfortable to hold in your hand, although one-handed operation is not possible on this smartphone. That said, the phone scores some good points in the design department.

Coming into the display, Infinix S5 Pro has a 6.53-inch Full HD + display with a screen resolution of 2220 x 1080 pixels. The display is quite bright and it is usable under outdoor conditions and you can thank the 480nits brightness for this.

The 91 percent screen-to-body ratio provides a smooth viewing experience. You’ll enjoy the content on this screen, although the audio coming from a single speaker can spoil the mood because it lacks bass when the volume is up.

Infinix S5 Pro: Performance Review

The Infinix S5 Pro is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P35 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Memory can be further increased with the help of microSD card slot. Performance is not the strong point of this smartphone.

In our testing, we found out that when you do a lot of multitasking you open multiple Chrome windows and then switch between them.

Also, on the gaming front, it does an average job as one can play some arcade games but there are no high-end multiplayer games for this smartphone.

On the software front, the Infinix S5 Pro runs on Android 10, with the company’s custom user interface running XOS 6.0.

The user interface definitely comes with some interesting features such as floating windows that provide shortcuts to your favorite applications.

Then you have some battery saving options with customizable themes, a smart panel, and gesture-based navigation controls.

On the downside, however, you get to see a lot of advertisements on the user interface. The moment you open the app drawer, you will be greeted with promoted apps, when you open the notification panel, you will find advertisements with AHA games there.

In addition, when you open the Phoenix browser, it will start sending spam notifications similar to UC browser. This can be frustrating at times because you will end up with more spam notifications then real useful.

Infinix S5 Pro: Camera Review

On the camera front, the Infinix S5 Pro is loaded with a 48-megapixel primary lens with triple camera setup with f / 1.79 aperture, 2-megapixel depth sensor, and low-light sensor with dual-LED flash .

It is the first smartphone in this segment to come with a pop-up selfie camera that has a 16-megapixel sensor.

Starting with the first selfie display, the phone works fairly average, to be honest, because the images were overexposed in indoor conditions and the dynamic range was not so great when we take selfies in outdoor conditions.

Selfies taken in low light conditions turned out to be purposeless.

Coming to the rear camera, in our opinion the performance was quite average. Although the phone does a good job capturing the subject’s true colors, details were clearly missing from the photos. Portrait mode works well in our tests.

In low light conditions, the results were fairly average as the phone was aggressively trying to reduce noise, which in the end was tarnishing the entire image. Furthermore, image quality was not great for low light conditions.

Infinix S5 Pro: Battery Review

Coming with a battery, the Infinix S5 Pro is supported by a 4,000mAh battery with 10W fast charging support. In our testing, we came to know that the smartphone gives about a day of battery backup with moderate to high usage.

For normal usage such as taking calls, browsing a little more, this can give more than a day of battery life. On charging time, it takes about 2 hours for the phone to be fully charged.

The Infinix S5 Pro is a beautiful looking smartphone that will attract a lot of users. The high-resolution display with a pop-up selfie camera seems to be an interesting deal for any potential customer in this price range.

However, if you consider performance, it feels more like an underdog than the likes of Realm 5, Samsung Galaxy M30, Redmi Note 8 and more.

  • Notchless display and pop-up front camera
  • Dedicated microSD card slot
  • Main camera produces good results in daylight

  • Underwhelming performance
  • Low-light camera is gimmicky
  • Charging is slow
  • Ads and bloatware in XOS
