Poco F3 GT First Impressions: An All-New Gaming Phone

The Poco F3 GT is priced at Rs. 26,999 in India

After Xiaomi launched the Poco F1 smartphone, Poco now operates as an independent brand. The smartphone was a powerful device with high-end hardware and a large market.

Since then, the Poco brand has launched several series to suit different price segments. However, the Poco F1 was never relaunched in India. The Poco F3, or Redmi K40, as it is commonly known, was rebranded here as the Mi 11X.

Nearly three years ago, Poco launched the F1 smartphone. Now, the Poco F3 GT is the F3’s successor.

The new smartphone is a rebranded Redmi K40 game enhanced edition, which was first launched in China earlier in the year.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1200 processor powers it, which is also used in the recently launched OnePlus Nord 2. It also features magnetic trigger buttons that will appeal to gamers.

Is the Poco F3 GT a niche phone or the next value-priced smartphone? Here are my initial impressions after spending some time with the Poco F3 GT.

Poco F3 GT price in India

The Poco F3 GT is priced at Rs. The base variant, which comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, is priced at Rs. 26,999 in India.

Poco also offers F3 GT, which has 8GB RAM and 128GB storage for Rs. 28999 or 8GB RAM and 256GB storage for Rs. 30,999 The company will offer introductory prices for the device when it goes on sale July 26th, as well as discounts with certain banks.

The Poco F3 GT smartphone is large and features a 6.67 inch AMOLED display. It supports HDR10+, full-HD+ resolution, and a 120Hz refresh rate. It has thin bezels around the display, which gives it a beautiful look.

Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the back and front. The hole for the 16-megapixel self-portrait camera is located at the top. The smartphone is quite large in aspect and it can be difficult to reach the top with one hand.

The Poco F3 GT is quite wide. However, it is easy to grip due to its round sides. The smartphone’s frame is made of metal. It has different design elements. It is curved at the sides, but flat around its four corners.

This makes it easier to hold while you watch the content or play games. Concave curves on the top and bottom of the frame help gamers grip while gaming. The phone is 8.3mm thick and weighs 205g.

The power button is located near the center of the frame, and there are two sliders to either side. These buttons can be moved inwards to remove the magnetic trigger buttons located on the shoulders.

They otherwise rest flush with the body. These buttons provide good tactile feedback. The volume and microphone buttons are located on the left side of this frame.

The Poco F3 GT’s top features an IR emitter and secondary microphone. On the bottom, the SIM tray, primary microphone, and USB Type-C port are located.

The Poco F3 GT’s glass back gives it a premium feel and look. The top left corner of the device has a triple camera module.

It includes a 64-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera. A 2-megapixel macro camera is also included.

The RGB lights on the module glow when Game Boost is activated and while charging. Predator Black’s unit I have was made with a matte back that didn’t attract a lot of fingerprints.

The F3 GT IP53 has been made dust- and water-resistant by Poco so that it can withstand regular water splashes.

The Poco F3 GT comes with a huge 5,065 mAh battery. Poco includes a 67W charger with the box, which is one of the most powerful chargers at this price. During the review, I will test the charging speed.

The bright yellow USB cable comes with a 90 degree USB Type-C connector. This makes it simple to charge your smartphone while you are gaming..

Poco chose the MediaTek Dimensity1200 processor for F3 GT. There are options for 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB RAM.

You can choose from 128GB or 256GB storage. You can use it with two Nano-SIMs and the storage is not expandable.

The Poco F3 GT has MIUI 12.5 and Android 11. My unit also had the June Android Security Patch. It is very easy to navigate around and the UI is intuitive.

There are a lot of preinstalled apps and some of them do send spammy notifications. You also have Facebook and Amazon apps.

The F3 GT looks like Poco is looking to use dedicated hardware in order to reach gamers with a limited budget.

Although the trigger buttons are useful, the Density 1200 SoC is capable of running heavy games. How does this affect real-world gaming? Gadgets 360 will be publishing a full review soon.
