Samsung Fined More Than Rs 100 crore in Australia, this is the Reason

Tech giant Samsung has been fined $14 million (approximately over Rs 100 crore) for misleading claims made about its Galaxy smartphones. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has taken this action.

The fine pertains to an investigation of the year 2019. The company released several advertisements for its Galaxy smartphones that year. The emphasis on these advertisements was that the phone is water-register even for 30 minutes after being in the water. In its advertisements, Samsung depicted Galaxy phones being submerged in a swimming pool and splashed on them by the sea.

According to media reports, the company has agreed to pay a $14 million fine to the ACCC for these misleading claims. The company has also made software and hardware changes to its phones to make the water-resistant claims more realistic.

ACCC says that this fine is a reminder to all businesses. The watchdog says that it will continue its action against such erring businesses.

According to the information, these ads were broadcast on National TV of Australia. Consumer Watchdog monitored some of these ads. Samsung has been said to have created a false impression about the water-resistance of its Galaxy models.

The truth was that smartphones only registered in clean water. The feature was not effective in sea or chlorine mixed water. In that situation, there was a possibility of corrosion in the charging point of the phone.

It has 128GB storage and an octa-core Exynos 850 SoC processor. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy F13 is very similar to the Galaxy M13, which was introduced in May. The Galaxy F13 has a 6,000mAh battery and the Galaxy M13 has a 5,000mAh battery.

Its 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant costs Rs 11,999. The price of 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant is Rs 12,999. It is available in Nightsky Green, Sunrise Copper, and Waterfall Blue colors and will be available from June 29 on Flipkart, Samsung.com, and select retail stores.
