Apple has been involving more of its executives in the testing of Vision Pro internally and one of the problems that have been raised with the recently revealed AVR/VR device is the weight. People who saw demonstrations on Vision Pro at the World Wide Developer Conference were also adamant about the fact that Vision Pro feels a bit heavy and may cause discomfort when worn for extended periods.
Today, the well-known analyst Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has written in his daily newsletter Power On that Apple already is aware of the weight issue that is a problem with Vision Pro and the company has designed a top strap to fit the headset to tackle the problem. But, Apple will not ship the top strap inside the box along with the headset.

Vision Pro Top strap as an accessory
One reason why Vision Pro feels heavy on the face is that it is constructed entirely from aluminum, and it has several glass displays. So wearing it for an extended period presses the face of the wearer with the weight of it.
The strap on top can help assist in balancing the weight and reducing the stress to the skin. However, Apple does not consider it a necessary accessory that has to be packed in a box. Instead, customers can opt to buy it on their own.
Here’s what Gurman has got to say:
“With increasing numbers of people trying out their headsets, the device’s weaknesses are getting more attention. A lot of users have reported that the device’s metal frame can feel heavy after just several hours of constant usage. Many have had motion sickness but in a lesser degree as compared to other headsets.
To tackle the issue of weight, Apple has developed an additional strap that fits over the head of the wearer. However, Apple is thinking of selling the strap as an additional accessory instead of including it with packaging.”
It’s not the only thing users need to buy. Zeiss lenses for corrective vision are an item that people who wear glasses should purchase.
Gurman also writes that only employees with seniority are permitted the privilege of taking Vision Pro home at Apple. But this will be changing soon. In addition, Apple has plans to permit developers with a hand-held device to help accelerate the development of apps for VisionOS.
To promote Vision Pro, Apple is planning to establish new spaces within its retail stores, where demonstrations will take place. In this area, customers will be able to select the ideal fitting for the light seals and bands that allows them to put the gadget on comfortably.
Apple Vision Pro is expected to launch in the first quarter of 2024, with a cost of $3,499. According to Gurman, “early” means that it will be launched before May.
